Places to Go // NYC: Hawkers

The world is filled with so many hidden gems from restaurants, entertainment, games and just the most kooky crazy things. I have been an avid adventurer and aspiring traveler. I want to find the best places to go and not necessarily the most commercially popular. I love places that are rich in culture and uniqueness. So, I figure a great wait to start on this path is by starting in my own city first.  New York City in it's own is a culture rich state which makes me excited to start here. First on my list of  places to go in New York City is Hawkers.

Hawkers is located on 14th Street between 3rd and 4th ave. Its pretty funny because for a long time i didn't know the address. I just knew how to get there which is another reason why I decided to open this segment up. I can actually know the address and names of the places i find and visit. My friends for a while made fun of me because I didn't know the name of this place or the address. I'm working on it. Regardless I want to start with Hawkers because it really one of NYC hidden gems. So hidden often you can walk past it and not realize.

I love the layout of the restaurant it's that perfect median between five star restaurant and fast food grab and go. They have a bar like set up with stools to sit around on each side. Usually you'll find 1 or two people in there already eating o placing a to go order. What gives me life is the silhouette art work that dances all over the walls. It almost reminds me of jazz clubs you see in the movies.

My go to whenever I go is the lunch special because you get so much for so little. There average prices are great as well. I just obsessed with Pad Thai and the fact that they have it on their special, makes it even more amazing. Some places would never put that on there lunch specials. With the special it also includes a soup or salad. My favorite is there wonton soup. Often it's really good.

Since I went out with my girls i decided to order something new and I got these spinach dumplings. They were amazing, i kinda want to make a grammatically error and put z like four times but I wont. I am just trying to state thats how good they were. My friend went ahead an order shrimp chips (one photo down ) I was intrigue by the name alone then when i saw it I was in utter silence. It came with this coconut dipping sauce. The taste alone had me questioning how they made it. It then lead to us breaking down all the possible ways they could have made it. Like we spent about five minutes discussing it.

My other girl got octopus which was amazing! I thought it would be nasty, but it wasn't. i love it even more because it was sautéed with a sweet sauce and had vegetables.

  Inspirational Message of the Day

Nehemiah said "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.' - Nehemiah 8:10

Holiday Style // Love Red

Classic red is just a style tradition. You can't go without wearing red during the holiday season. It's about as normal as drinking water.  What I love is the variations of red. This coat was one I got last year from my church. It was around the time I really wasn't working and couldn't afford to get a warm coat.

Stripes & Culottes

NYFW this year was such a blessing. Way more than I could have dreamed. However, between the move of the shows from Lincoln Center to actually buildings it made it difficult to commute back and forth. I didn't know whether I was coming or going this week. It was a bit difficult to keep up with my looks as well due to my work schedule. However, I was able to capture this one which was my favorite look from the whole week. And guess what Jesus styled me!!!!

Accesory of the Week // Alex & Ani

Running home after school with report card in one hand and a joy in your heart. You get home to show your parents how much you achieved.  They take pride and joy in their  baby girl so the next day they take you out shopping. They find a trinket that's more that an enough to show how proud they are. A simple charm of achievement, that showcase how proud they are and motivates you to forever achieve the best and accomplish every goal you ever put forward. This is just a speck of what some little girls dream of.
